The cut edges become more polished using slow laser cutting speeds. However, if cutting is very slow, the resulting cut is slightly wider and extends outwards towards the bottom. To solve this problem, laser cutting machine manufacturers recommended using a focal length of 2.5 inches for acrylic with thickness between 3 and 8 millimeters and for thicker acrylic, they suggested using a focal length of 5 inches.

 

There are also acrylic laser cutting machine that has cutting table. This allows the laser machine user to avoid reflections of the laser beam and prevents visible unevenness in the edges of the acrylic materials. The special table in acrylic laser cutting is known to produce cleaner cut edges.
